Slow Children at Play

With the high level of political correctness in this country, you would think “Slow Children at Play” road signs would be removed.

They’re not slow.  They’re mentally challenged.

How embarrassing is it for parents to have their child’s mental capacity broadcast from the curb?

It’s a private matter.

There aren’t any “Fisted Parents at War,” or “Angry Teens in Distress” road signs.  Those family matters stay behind closed doors, at least until the angry teens broadcast their parent’s fight on YouTube.

Why not make the situation worse?  How about “Retards at Play,” “Mumblers Ahead,” or “Drool Warning?”

It’s an insult.

What we need are road signs that warn us of real problems … “Panhandler 50 Feet.”

If I had that warning, I could at least have the opportunity to drive an alternate route.

It’s evitable that if there is panhandler on the side of the ride, I will hit the red light.  For what seems like an hour, I will repeatedly look in the rearview mirror, down at the radio and back to the red light to avoid making eye contact.

If I do accidentally make eye contact,  I feel like the most horrible person that ever lived because all he wants is a cold drink and burger … and because I’m sitting in my air-conditioned car, sneaking sips of my cold drink and eating a burger.

It’s awkward and uncomfortable.

Why are we still using a word from the 1930s to define disabled children?  Didn’t these terms change decades ago?

Why has nobody sued?

“Slow Children at Play” would outrage more people, if they weren’t too slow to be outraged.

What about those poor mentally challenged men that have to hold a sign in front of all those cars that says..SLOW. They don’t make those Mexicans hold one that says…ILLEGAL ALIEN
