I joked about Jerry Giordano and KTUL milking his DUI arrest for publicity. Little did I know, they already planned it.
Giordano will do a series of “special reports following the process” of his legal troubles. In other words, a local-produced reality show that is broadcast as a three to five-minute news story.*(See bottom of post.)
Second place to KOTV must really hurt.
Another person who needs a new job is Randi Miller. Maybe a series of “special reports following the process” of her political troubles would prove her innocence.
Second place to Sally Bell must really hurt. Nineteen percent? Ouch.
Since KTUL is moving into reality television territory, they should go one step further. Comedy.
In the tradition of The Odd Couple, Laverne & Shirley, and Ren and Stimpy, I present:
Jerry and Randi
In this mix-matched comedy, Jerry plays a former television anchor trying to rebuild his life after an embarrassing DUI arrest. He’s a neat freak and has an eye for detail.
Randi plays a former politician trying to rebuild her life after an embarrassing loss to a family she evicted from their business. She’s sloppy and casual.
By way the way, my name is Max. I take care of both of them. Because when they met, it was murder.
In the pilot episode, Jerry answers an ad for a roommate. He assumes Randi is a man and signs the lease. It’s not until he sees her getting out of the shower that he realizes she’s a woman.
Other storylines include:
Episode 6: The Image Episode
Randi decides to reinvent herself as a the next Hannah Montana, Randi Mondandi. Jerry has a beer.
Episode 14: Driving while Dyslexic
Jerry begins DUI school. Randi finds a new job as the DUI instructor. Unknown to Randi, she is dyslexic and demonstrates to the class how insert an IUD. Jerry has a beer.
Episode 22: Season Finale Cliffhanger
One of them is pregnant, but which one? Jerry has a beer.
Randi has perfected … well, practiced … her acting skills through television interviews. She practiced enough to reach nineteen percent.
Jerry can read a teleprompter.
I predict an Emmy for nomination for both.
P.S. The story about Giordano’s “special reports following the process” of his court process is no longer on the KTUL Web site. I don’t know if KTUL plans to continue with that idea. Here’s the statement he issued in that video:
“I can’t really say too much because of pending litigation, but I do realize the seriousness of the allegations and to that end will be doing a series of special reports following the process. It will be used as an educational tool for the general public, but also for younger viewers so that they can understand the seriousness of the situation.”
